Most Affordable Programs

The semester-long UAB Exchanges and UAB/USAC Affiliate programs are our most affordable programs. For these programs, your tuition, room, and board cost will be approximately the same as a semester at UAB. These programs are available in many different countries and cover many different subject areas. 


UAB Exchanges

The total cost of UAB Exchange programs vary by program. Pricing information can be found on each individual program page in the budget sheets. If you are currently receiving funds from UAB Educational Assistance (tuition discounts for UAB employees and their dependents), the Alabama PACT scholarship, or the GI dependent scholarship, you should go on a UAB Exchange program, as you will be able to use your Educational Assistance, PACT, and GI funds.

$125 Study Abroad Administration Fee
Paid to the Host Campus On Campus Housing

You will also need to budget additional funds for personal expenses, airfare, and any additional travel you plan to do outside of your program.

Affiliate Programs

UAB affiliates include UAB/USAC, UAB/ISA or UAB/CISabroad. The total cost of each affiliate program will vary by program. Complete pricing information can be found on each individual program page of the affiliate provider's website. Most scholarships and financial aid will apply to the affiliate programs. The type of fees that you will need to budget for are included below.

UAB Internship and Practicum Courses Abroad

On UAB Internship/Practicum Courses Abroad you'll pay:

Faculty-Led Programs


Faculty-Led Program Fee

Items included in the program fee vary by faculty-led program. Typically, the program fee includes prearranged group charges such as guidance by the UAB faculty leader, education abroad insurance, accommodations, group excursions, and a group meal. Sometimes, the program fee includes airfare. Faculty-led program fee amounts vary depending on the particular program and the destination. Pricing information can be found on each individual program page in the budget sheets. 


Study Abroad Administration Fee

All students participating in a faculty-led program are required pay the Study Abroad Administration Fee, a University of Alabama System Board of Trustees Institutional Fee.  


UAB Tuition and Fees

All students participating in a faculty-led program are required to enroll in the UAB course affiliated with the program. Regular UAB tuition rates will apply. Tuition and fees are set by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees and are subject to change.Tuition in the schools of Health Professions, Public Health, and Nursing is slightly higher.

Refund policy:
  • The deposit is non-refundable.
  • For the second payment and final payment, refunds may be requested at least 1 week prior to program departure and may be considered on an individual basis for the following reasons only: involuntary call to active U.S. military duty, death of the program participant, death of an immediate family member, emergency involving an immediate family member that requires the program participant’s presence at home, or severe illness of the program participant that prohibits overseas travel. All refund requests must be made via email to the Office of Education Abroad Director and must be accompanied by official documentation attesting to the reason for the refund request.
  • There is no guarantee of a refund. Refunds to program participants are not possible unless the Office of Education Abroad can obtain a refund from the entity to which payments were paid on behalf of the program participant.
  • Refund requests will not be considered after one week prior to the start of the program. Students who leave a program after one week prior to the start of the program are fully responsible for all costs associated with leaving the program or returning to the United States and/or Birmingham.
  • No refund will be granted to a program participant who has violated a UAB policy; violated a U.S., Alabama, or Birmingham law; violated a law of the program locations; or been asked to leave the program by the faculty leader or the Office of Education Abroad Director.
  • If the program is cancelled by the Office of Education Abroad, refunds will be made for payments for which the Office of Education Abroad can obtain refunds from the entities to which payments were paid on behalf of the program participants.

Non-Supported Programs

The total cost of non-supported program will vary widely by program. For complete pricing information, contact the program provider.  The type of fees that you will need to budget for are included below.
