Felicia S Baltzell
Felicia Baltzell is the Advisor for the Office of Education Abroad. Before joining UAB, Felicia worked in different capacities at Missouri State University such as teaching French as a per-course faculty member and serving students as a Global Ambassador in international education. She graduated from Missouri State University in 2017 with her B.A. in Anthropology and French, Minor in International Relations.
Seeing the most the world has to offer through its people and cultures is Felicia's greatest passion. She started traveling at 16, seeing England, Scotland and France for the first time which spurred her love for travel and culture. Upon pursuing this love in her undergraduate studies, she traveled more of Europe and made the life-changing decision to study abroad. Having a penchant for the unique, Felicia's location of study was a place most people have never heard of: L'île de La Réunion! This French island is nestled in the Indian Ocean off the East coast of Madagascar. The blend of French, Indian, Malagasy, and Pakistani influences on this small island intrigued Felicia's anthropological interest and using French Créole every day was a welcomed language challenge. In total, Felicia has visited seven foreign countries, 21 U.S. states, and plans on expanding these horizons at every turn!
Today, Felicia still seeks out to travel at any possible given opportunity. Every year, her friends from Réunion and her go somewhere new together. When she isn't globetrotting, Felicia enjoys hiking, learning languages, or playing a good RPG from time to time. She plans on volunteering in Birmingham, as she did in Missouri, with assisting refugees in the area with the resettlement process as well.
As the Education Abroad Advisor, Felicia works with UAB students to guide them through the process of studying abroad, from the start of the application to returning home safely. Additionally, she oversees the credit articulation process for students to ensure that academic goals are being met for each individual. She's thrilled to assist the fantastic students at UAB in growing their education while tapping into the global community.
